A New Era of Jurassic World Projects May Be on The Horizon!

Jurassic World: Dominion is to be the start of a whole new era for the franchise, in the words of Producer Frank Marshall.

The team at Collider continue to hit it out the park with exciting Jurassic World exclusive stories – and their latest is no different. In a chat with Frank Marshall about the upcoming music documentary Laurel Canyon, Christina Radish could get a tantalising hint at what may be next for the franchise. When asked if Jurassic World: Dominion was set to be the final entry in the franchise, Marshall said it was not – and instead alluded to it being the start of a new era for the franchise.

He then followed this up with the statement that “The dinosaurs are now on the mainland amongst us, and they will be for quite some time, I hope.”

It’s hardly surprising that executives at Universal Studios are keen to keep dinosaurs de-extinct for as long as possible. In a recent Forbes article, Jurassic World was highlighted as Hollywood’s most profitable blockbuster franchise – so it makes sense for Universal to want to continue the momentum for as long as is possible. Indeed, with Camp Cretaceous and an as-of-yet unnamed Live Action television series in the works, it certainly looks as though we are likely to see the growth of the franchise in the coming years. I would not be surprised if we begin to see a similar approach to franchises like Star Wars or Marvel – with side-line projects developed to support the key studio releases in the future.

Whilst it is hard not to be excited about the opportunity to get our hands on more Jurassic material, I must admit that I do remain cautiously optimistic. For a while, Jurassic World Dominion was discussed as the end of the current trilogy – with Colin Trevorrow himself saying that the current films were always planned as a contained trilogy. This suggests that the third instalment may not necessarily leave many plot threads open – so it does make me question where future projects will take us, and just how natural the transitions into those projects will feel. I absolutely love this franchise – but I am always conscious that too much of a good thing can be detrimental to the overall performance a project sees, so I am hopeful that Universal will take their time and continue to build upon the strong foundations established in Jurassic’s legacy.
