The Dinosaurs Have Dominion Now - Jurassic World Dominion Trailer Breakdown

Universal have begun to establish dominion over Jurassic World’s latest movie, with the first official trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion debuting on YouTube and across social media today. In this article we’re going to talk about some of the biggest moments from this trailer and share a few of the things we’re looking forward to as we approach the release of the sixth entry in the Jurassic franchise.

The trailer features a lot to digest. We love the glimpses at dinosaurs in the wild which it provides – from the Parasaurolophus herd roaming in Sierra Nevada to the larger Apatosaurus causing for a moment of shock and awe amongst workers in a lumber yard. These moments of scale and grandiosity are present throughout the trailer and provide a great juxtaposition to the more intimate moments we believe we will see – which is where Blue and her offspring, Beta, come in! Having Blue with offspring in this film, and showing Owen, Claire and Maisie attempting to keep them safe creates a really interesting disjointed family mechanic which we are sure will be the heartbeat of the film. Whether BioSyn or another company attempt to kidnap Beta, as is hinted at later in the trailer, remains to be seen – but this would certainly explain the catalyst which sets the events of Dominion in motion.

The trailer also teases some of the new threats which the ensemble of characters will be facing off against throughout the film – with a closer look at the Therizinosaurus which was teased in prior set photos alongside a look at the Pyroraptor, an animal which appears to get entangled in an encounter with both Owen and Kayla. These are animals which certainly were not on InGen’s list, so we are excited to see how the four-year gap present between the end of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom and the beginning of the sequel is used to explain the prevalence of dinosaurs in the wild on a global scale. It is safe to say that the aforementioned ‘global scale’ is something which is present throughout this trailer – so it gets us really excited to see just how many new locations will be explored throughout the runtime of this film.

A couple of additional stand-out moments include the reveal of a deadly-looking locust swarm ambushing a farm building as Ellie Sattler watches on in horror. How these creatures tie into the main plot line is yet to be revealed, but it certainly gives the vibe of something from a show like X-Files, so we are excited to see where this factors in. We also have a stunning moment with a Quetzacoatlus swooping in and forcing Kayla’s plane to the ground – reminding us that the deadliest threat in this new world may not actually be the animals on the ground, but the even larger animals which now dominate the skies. I wasn’t sure if the Quetz would carry over from the Prologue and into the main story, so I am VERY excited to see that it will have a presence throughout the events in Dominion.

Lastly, but certainly not least, it’s worth noting the return of classic characters including the original trio (as previewed at the head of this article) as well as the return of the classic Dilophosaurus. Camp Cretaceous Season 4 already teased the return of the ever-loved spitter with it’s shock appearance in the season’s finale, so we are curious as to whether these are the same animals which Mantah Corp were able to capture and contain. Perhaps Mantah Corp island is a holding location for where these animals eventually find themselves in the new film? Only time will tell.

It’s safe to say that we are incredibly excited for dinosaurs to once again find dominance over the box office this June. The first trailer for Jurassic World Dominion hits all the right beats and mixes nostalgia with compelling storytelling beautifully. We can’t wait to see how this world filled with dinosaurs opens up further.
