A surprise listing on the Microsoft Store earlier today has led to exciting news for fans of Jurassic gaming, as it has been revealed that Minecraft & Universal Studios have partnered up to release an official Jurassic World DLC within the game.

The one minute twenty-one second trailer was packed full of sequences which fans of the Jurassic World franchise are bound to recognise – and also included a wonderful look at lots of the new placeable vehicles, pieces and elements that the DLC will adds to the game, as well as a look at the vast array of new skins which this DLC will bring for your Minecraft characters.

The concept of DLC for Minecraft isn’t a new one – but this looks to be one of the game’s most expansive to date. The main draw here is, of course, the animals of both Jurassic Park and Jurassic World – and we see an expansive assortment of them in this short trailer. These include the iconic Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptors, Pteranodons, the Mosasaur, the Triceratops, the Stegosaurus, the Brachiosaurus, the Indominus Rex and the Gallimimus.

These dinosaurs are just the tip of the iceberg, however, as the official article accompanying the announcement boasts that there will be more than SIXTY dinosaurs. The screenshots on the website show us Dimorphodon, Ankylosaurus, Compy and Dilophosaurus – so we are excited to see who else joins the dino roster. It is safe to say that this sounds less like a DLC, and more like a full game!

The article also provides insight into how the DLC will function, with the following statement:

“Not only can you craft and train dinosaurs, build exhibits, and solve problems, but you can also go on expeditions to discover dinosaur DNA! Use vehicles and your team of NPCs to solve disasters and earn a high score!”

In addition to all of these new dinosaurs, we also have a world filled with specialist block pieces designed to allow us to create our own Jurassic World. These blocks include things like dinosaur skeleton decorations, but also things like Jurassic World banners and even what appears to be a John Hammond statue (as seen in the Innovation Centre) – really allowing your imagination to run wild! Alongside the blocks, we also have vehicles including the ATV, Jurassic World Jeep and JW001 Helicopter – providing you with a host of ways to navigate your newly-constructed parks.

It also looks as though we will get a pre-made map of Jurassic World to explore, which is similar to the way that other Minecraft DLCs of this type have functioned. It will be exciting to explore a fully envisioned Jurassic World, and will be great to get to visit places like the Mosasaur Arena and T-Rex Kingdom for ourselves – albeit it in block format!

I am really glad to see the Minecraft team and the Jurassic World team doubling down on this DLC – giving us a pack which feels very much worthy of its own title, as opposed to being purely a piece of additional content. This feels like a full park building experience in its own right, and will offer a unique contrast to the more top-down control we get in games like Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis.

It looks like the price is currently $7.99 on the PS4. We can’t wait to get our hands on this – and we can’t wait to see what the community makes!
